{"id":177,"date":"2023-08-27T18:25:57","date_gmt":"2023-08-27T18:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trinity.mithrilmedia.io\/?p=177"},"modified":"2023-08-27T18:25:57","modified_gmt":"2023-08-27T18:25:57","slug":"sunday-sermon-august-13-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cedarlutheran.org\/?p=177","title":{"rendered":"Sunday Sermon, August 13, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Sunday Sermon 08-13-2023\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QNXwJA6UOoM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old Testament Reading: Job 38:4\u201318<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhere were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?<br>Tell me, if you have understanding.<br>5<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who determined its measurements\u2014surely you know!<br>Or who stretched the line upon it?<br>6<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On what were its bases sunk,<br>or who laid its cornerstone,<br>7<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">when the morning stars sang together<br>and all the sons of God shouted for joy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOr who shut in the sea with doors<br>when it burst out from the womb,<br>9<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">when I made clouds its garment<br>and thick darkness its swaddling band,<br>10<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and prescribed limits for it<br>and set bars and doors,<br>11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and said, \u2018Thus far shall you come, and no farther,<br>and here shall your proud waves be stayed\u2019?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">12<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHave you commanded the morning since your days began,<br>and caused the dawn to know its place,<br>13<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth,<br>and the wicked be shaken out of it?<br>14<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is changed like clay under the seal,<br>and its features stand out like a garment.<br>15<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the wicked their light is withheld,<br>and their uplifted arm is broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">16<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHave you entered into the springs of the sea,<br>or walked in the recesses of the deep?<br>17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have the gates of death been revealed to you,<br>or have you seen the gates of deep darkness?<br>18<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth?<br>Declare, if you know all this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Epistle Reading: Romans 1-:5\u201317<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them.6 But the righteousness based on faith says, \u201cDo not say in your heart, \u2018Who will ascend into heaven?\u2019\u201d (that is, to bring Christ down)7 \u201cor \u2018Who will descend into the abyss?\u2019\u201d (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? \u201cThe word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart\u201d (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, \u201cEveryone who believes in him will not be put to shame.\u201d 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For \u201ceveryone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, \u201cHow beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!\u201d 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, \u201cLord, who has believed what he has heard from us?\u201d 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gospel Reading: Matthew 14:22\u201333<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way[b] from the land,[c] beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night[d] he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, \u201cIt is a ghost!\u201d and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, \u201cTake heart; it is I.
